RURAL LIVING IN ST.CATHARINES

Although St. Catharines has been dubbed “the garden city” for its 1000’s of acres of lush parks and gardens, it isn’t necessarily one’s first thought when they think of country living. St. Catharines is made up of vibrant – primarily urban – communities that only seem to be expanding.

The Niagara Region in general tries to keep a tight plan on development by making sure to protect those current green spaces designated by the Green Belt. However,  in the the 2013 Greenbelt Review Summary, there were questions raised as to why the farmland located near the new St. Catharines General Hospital (west St. Catharines) was still under GreenBelt designation when there was so much development happening around it. We hope the city does the right thing by maintaining these prime agricultural lands as such.

The West End of St. Catharines (bordering Lincoln) does offer some superb rural living options with fruit farms and vineyards providing beautiful surroundings. It can be tough to find a country home for sale in St. Catherines. However, because country homes don’t come up for sale very often. When they do, prices are often quite high. But if you can get in, you’ll love living here.

Towards the south end of St. Catharines we have the rural heritage site of Morning Star Mill (pictured below). This historic site is located at the northern most section of Short Hill Provincial Parks and offers a short, but stunning trail if you enjoy leisurely walks. You might get lucky and find a rural style country home for sale in St. Catherines but you’d most likely be better off by exploring Pelham.

If you’re looking for country living but don’t want to live too far away from the city, St. Catharines can be a fantastic option. However, because St. Catharines is primarily urban, finding a country home here can be tough. Again, your best option is to search for a country home in the west side of the city bordering on Lincoln, or to the south side of the city bordering Pelham.
